{vintage treasures} the brown elephant, a mighty thrift shop

Monday, October 7, 2013

i love thrifting and antiquing, so i set out to compile a list of worth-your-while second hand shops + consignment boutiques in chicago for locals + visitors alike. i'm excited to recommend some of my favorite thrift shops around town. this week, we're starting with the brown elephant resale shop

when i'm not reading books, i'm thinking about books {i'm the gal you never want to help move from one apartment to the next because all of my beloved books are coming with me}, so while i love sifting through aisles of salvaged curiosities, forgotten keepsakes, and vestiges of the past, really what i love most about this shop are the many books + magazines that sometimes spill forth riotously from the bounteous bookshelves. i can spend all day here getting lost among the pages of dusty books, each new world costing only $1.50.

bonus: you won't find the apparel racks overflowing with fast fashion, instead you'll find an eclectic mix of vintage and modern clothes, footwear + accessories. oh, and if you're a music lover like me or if you are the proud owner of a phonograph, stop by to check out their copious selection of albums.

from our friends at the brown elephant:
Howard Brown Health Center exists to eliminate the disparities in health care experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people through research, education and the provision of services that promote health and wellness.
The revenue generated by donations and purchase at the Brown Elephant Shops help fund services for the more than 50% of Howard Brown Health Center clients who are under or uninsured.
so remember, if you're moving, don't toss that furniture when you can recycle it! the good folks at the brown elephant will come right on out to pick up any furnishings you'd like to donate. here's a list of items they'll accept and the locations they service.
reasonably-priced, antique household items + vintage furniture add character to any home.
